Biography
Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, Brett has spent most of his life restoring architectural antiques. This appreciation for antiques led to an interest in violin collecting and restoration. Hoping to combine these interests into a career, he attended the violin repair program at Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical in Redwing, MN. It was there that he gained a well-rounded knowledge of the luthier craft along with a sense of patience and the pursuit of perfection.
After graduating with top honors, Brett worked at a prestigious orchestral instrument repair shop, located on the coast of Maine. Shortly thereafter, he was accepted for an apprenticeship position with a prominent master violin maker in New England. It was there Brett learned the Cremonese style of violin construction and became completely immersed in the violin world.
Now back in his studio in the N.E. Minneapolis Arts District, Brett continues to build violins, violas and cellos, mixing his interest for antiques with a continuing study of violin history and a commitment to the art, craftsmanship, and the discipline of violin making.
